Rivalry week brings out the best and worst of collegiate athletes. The bad side, of course, are the countless fights which break out before games, or in the case of UNLV-Nevada, right in the middle of the action. After a UNLV touchdown, players from both teams engaged in a fight, and fans even got involved.
UNLV scored to win the game in overtime, prompting elation from their sidelines. However, some Nevada defensive players took issue with their celebration, prompting an all-out fight. Nevada’s Austin Arnold appears to have thrown the first punch.
Fans threw objects onto the field in response, with one journalist getting hit with a bottle, per Sports Illustrated.
A joint statement was released by both athletic directors, stating their regret for the situation at hand.
